Zebra’s Film bursary winners began preparations for their new films, which will be produced in the New Year and showcased on the 13 March at the Light House.The winners were:

Zebra Uno Director Nikki Stratton coordinated the Deaffest 2007, the national and international Film and TV Festival. There was a record attendance and a sell out Gala Awards Night.

Zebra’s other director Marilyn Bueno Del Carpio co-hosted the event with John Hay from Wolverhampton University. She also acted in one of the films nominated for Best Short British Film, ‘The Guest’ produced and directed by Pierce Starre and Bim Ajadi.

The awards were presented by Steve Chapman from Screen West Midlands, Rachel Basiktar Channel 4 presenter and Julian Peedle-Calloo BBC Producer and presenter.

The young Deaf Filmmakers films made from the Zebra project were showcased at Young Deaffest and bursaries awarded to the team to create more films.

The event was organised by Zebra-Uno, Light House and University of Wolverhampton with in-kind support and sponsored by Screen West Midlands, UK Film Council, Wolverhampton City Council, Media Box, AC2.com and Skillset.

Deaf Young Filmmakers

The Deaf young filmmakers project devised and organised by Zebra Uno has produced innovative films and animations of a high standard. The participants were able to develop their creative, practical and cooperative skills by writing, filming and editing their own projects with tuition and mentoring from Zebra Uno and Light House. Halloween Spooky Stories in British Sign Language

Halloween Spooky Stories presented in British Sign Language

Zebra jointly organised a spooky story telling session in BSL as part of a Halloween event at Bantock House Museum, Wolverhampton.

The main storyteller was Zebra director Marilyn Bueno Del Carpio and there was a voice over for all hearing visitors. The demand was so great that what had been intended to be a short session was repeated throughout the afternoon.
